From a CMO perspective, I translate complex science into clear value propositions and trusted patient experiences, aligning product, brand, and go-to-market to drive awareness, adoption, and measurable impact.

Current Roles

I bring this CMO lens to my work as Programme Director for Entrepreneurship and Digital Solutions at the University of Tartu Narva College, where I connect academic rigor with market needs and venture pathways. I also serve as a reporter for ETV+, enabling multi-channel storytelling and public engagement around health and innovation. Previously, I held leadership roles at the Narva Museum Foundation, Vaba Lava Narva Theatre Centre, and Startup Estonia, building partnerships and ecosystems across culture, public sector, and startups.

Toomas Toomsoo

Overview

I am a clinician-scientist in neurology focused on neurotechnology for Parkinson’s disease. I lead large clinical programs while running a translational research agenda that integrates advanced brain imaging, clinical genetics, and microbiome science to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and care.

Current Roles

I serve as Head of the Internal Medicine Clinic at Confido Medical Centre (2022–present), following leadership as Head of the Center of Neurology at Confido (2021–2022) and previously East Tallinn Central Hospital (2006–2021). Academically, I was Visiting Professor at Tallinn University’s School of Natural Sciences and Health (2020–2024) and currently Professor of Neurology (2025–2029).

Research Focus and Neurotech

My research targets Parkinson’s disease through three interconnected neurotech-enabled approaches:

Advanced neuroimaging: I specialize in transcranial brain sonography, the focus of my PhD (University of Tartu, 2019; supervisors Toomas Asser, Pille Taba, Daniela Berg).
Clinical genetics and molecular analysis: I apply exome and other sequencing methods to uncover risk loci and mechanistic pathways.
VMicrobiome profiling: I study gut–brain interactions, linking microbial signatures with motor and non-motor manifestations.
My work spans clinical genetics and molecular health sciences, including biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, biotechnology, molecular and cell biology, biophysics, and bioinformatics.

Translational Program and Mentorship

I bridge clinic and lab by embedding research workflows into patient pathways and training students in integrated neurotech methods.

MSc supervision: Henek Tomson (exome-based risk loci in early-onset Parkinson’s, 2023/24); Gerli-Annabell Süld (genetic determinants of clinical phenotypes in Saaremaa patients, 2023/24); Gizi Golt (de novo microbiome analysis in Parkinson’s, 2024/25).
BSc supervision: Eda Riin Reinok (gut microbiota and depression/non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s, 2024/25); Margit Lepik (dietary patterns and microbiota in Saaremaa Parkinson’s, 2024/25); Andra Savchuk (microbiota in chronic and episodic migraine; CGRP antibody effects, 2024/25).

I completed my neurology residency at the University of Tartu (1997–2001) and earned a PhD in Neurology (2019).
